The Battle for the perfect “Pitch”

In order to find some of the best public speaking and presentation enthusiasts, MIST Innovation Club arranged MIC Pitch Camp 1.0 from June 8 to July 19. The Pitch Camp was a massive event with almost 46 teams from all departments and all levels participating in it. It turned out as one of the most successful online events not only for the club but also for MIST.

The Pitch Camp was a unique event from the very beginning. It was arranged in a way so that even students with no idea about case presentation could participate. A week-long training camp was arranged before the start of the competition. Students could learn about how to make Power Point slides, how to deliver a speech, how to solve a problem from the provided case etc. This not only provided the beginners with sufficient knowledge to start with but also gave the necessary confidence.

Each of the 46 teams consisted of 4 members. The whole competition was divided into two rounds: Round one, where teams were allowed to choose their own cases of interests. Round two, which was the final round, where they were given with a case to solve and pitch.

Round one was an interesting one. Firstly because of the amazing topics and ideas the teams came up with and secondly how the presentations were promoted on social media. Yes, social media engagement was a vital part of this round. The evaluations system was like 75% of the marks would be given by the judges and 25% from social media reach. The more you promote your case on social media, the more marks you get. Students were sharing each other’s contents on Facebook particularly during this round. Thus, MIC making its impact from the very first round.

12 teams were selected for the final round. Unlike round one, this round was held entirely online. Teams were given about a week to prepare. Each team presented their cases one by one via a Zoom meeting. The respected judges asked them questions for a better evaluation. After some heart-beating moments of anticipation, the results were given. Teams “Axis of No Talent”, “WETWO”, “Sloths” were ranked as champion, first and second runners up respectively. All the teams were awarded with prize money and attractive gift vouchers.

MIC Pitch Camp 1.0 was basically a blast. Arguably MIST Innovation Club’s biggest event. MIC is looking forward to arrange MIC Pitch Camp 2.0 in the near future with bigger and better plans and ideas.
